Summer Reading at Public Libraries of Lancaster County
Summer Reading is a program that brings children, teens, and families into local public libraries for reading, activities, and programs. Over 19,000 youth participated in the countywide reading program in 2025. All local libraries use reading logs to help children track their reading and provide activities that support their curiosity and creativity. Youth Services Librarians help children select reading materials and provide literacy-enhancing programs such as story times and book clubs, in addition to hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and educational programs. Furthermore, an effort is made to have these events support Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards and Pennsylvania Academic Standards for students.
The countywide public library Summer Reading Program offers opportunities for local schools, child-centered agencies, and community based organizations to collaborate for the benefit of all children and families in their local communities.
